Cyraknow App launches to help people ‘Say Stuff Right’ — so they can speak with confidence

New pronunciation app takes the uncertainty out of saying tricky brand names and words.

Founded by Rob Kriauciunas, a creative director and content designer with nearly two decades of experience in digital design, UX, and content strategy, Cyraknow was born out of an experiment rather than a business plan. Kriauciunas began “vibe coding” — building with AI assistance, using Claude Code, a tool he’d never used before — just to see what was possible. What started as a way to test new tools led to a full-blown app.

The idea was personal from the start. The founder’s own surname — Kriauciunas, pronounced “Kra-choo-nus” — is one people routinely stumble over. And he’d had his own share of pronunciation missteps over the years: not knowing how to say the brand name Hermès when he was young, more recently Acai, and as he recently discovered, mispronouncing the word “Ennui” for years without realizing it.

The app’s name is a nod to the literary character Cyrano de Bergerac, the legendary wordsmith who famously whispered lines of romantic eloquence to help a tongue-tied suitor help a tongue-tied suitor express his feelings. Cyraknow is built on a similar idea: a quiet voice in your ear, helping you speak with a little more confidence.

The idea gained momentum in an unexpected way. Kriauciunas mentioned the project in passing to friends during a weekend retreat. Their reaction changed everything.

“I brought it up almost as an aside,” Kriauciunas said. “By the end of the weekend, they’d offered to put up seed money to help get it off the ground.”

That seed investment helped formalize Cyraknow LLC and move the app from side project to public launch.

Peter Manning, a close friend and one of Cyraknow’s investors, said the decision to back the app came quickly.

“When I hear a good idea, I get tingles, and Cyraknow gave me major tingles,” said Manning. “It just made sense, and no one was doing a good job making this information easy to find.”

How Cyraknow Works

Cyraknow gives users clear, accurate audio pronunciations across four categories: Brand Names, Words, Places, and Food/Drink, with more categories planned for future releases. The app’s brand pronunciations come from a specially curated database — and as users search for words not yet included, it also helps expand the library over time.

Rather than relying on the International Phonetic Alphabet, which uses characters that are not very intuitive, Cyraknow spells every entry out in plain English — breaking words into everyday syllables so users can read a pronunciation at a glance instead of decoding unfamiliar symbols.

Every pronunciation in the app is also spoken aloud in Kriauciunas’s own cloned voice. “I was looking for a good, unique voice for the app. I happen to have a college radio background, and people have always told me I have a great voice, so I thought — why not make it distinctive and put my own stamp on it,” said Kriauciunas. Down the road, Cyraknow plans to add the ability to choose from different voices, but for now, every word comes from its founder.

Cyraknow is free to use, with a Premium subscription available for $0.99/month or $9.99/year that removes ads and offers the ability to save words for easy access.
